Explainer Video - 1 -2 min.
Explain any topic - social, history, science, news, art, culture, tech, racism, bullying, environment, music, etc. (Or teacher presents a menu or range of topics)
Focus the topic on something very specific
Technology? Too big! cell phone addiction, virtual reality, AI taking jobs, self-driving cars, Apple vs. Windows, etc.
Keep it simple, understandable, interesting! Target script for audience (your own words!)
STEPS
PRE-PRODUCTION
1. Brainstorm - 3-4 ideas
2. Pitch chosen idea - Explain in 2-3 sentences
3. Treatment - Imagine the first 10 seconds to refine focus. What do we see/hear that is interesting or exciting and gets our attention. Give us a feeling for the topic. Start with a provocative statement, image, or question. "We see an image of _________. We hear _________."
4. Script / Shot List - Most statements have 1+ image per phrase.
- Introduce topic to your audience. Explain topic and provide supporting details. Wrap up with summary and insightful conclusion.
PRODUCTION AND POST-PRODUCTION
iMovie, Wevideo, Adobe Express, Canva
1. Create and/or download images - large (700+); or screenshot them
Under 'Fair Use' - educational use only, classroom presentations, not public distribution
Public Distribution - Google Image Search > Tools > usage rights > creative commons > usually provide attribution and non-commercial
AI - can be time consuming, difficult to target, stereotypical
2. Rehearse narration. Use engaged voice - not flat, monotone. Record script in chunks on timeline
3. Place Title at beginning of timeline - image + text
4. Import images to program and add to timeline. Synchronize with words
5. Animate images (limited and subtle; not busy) - effects > motion
6. Music - low level, royalty free
7. Credits at end (school name, produced by...., etc.)
8. Download or Export the Movie
9. Put into your Google Drive Share folder for grading
